Description
It comes from a village called Rozas de Puerto Real just west of Madrid up in hills at 850+ meters in the Valle del Tietar, Sierra de Gredos, so it’s technically D.O. Vinos de Madrid. 50-80 year old vines on granite soil. Vinification in used oak and 9 months in foudres. Native yeasts. No fining or filtering. Organic. Biodynamic. Pedro Parra consulted on the terroir. ~4,500 cases made. Transparent color. Bright nose of mostly ripe red berry fruit with some dark berries and sweet spices. The palate has some body from the 14.5% alcohol and displays the same ripe fruit with some licorice, minerality, and spice but there’s good acidity and it still comes off as medium-light bodied and elegant compared to say more blockbuster styled Chateauneuf du Pape or Priorat. There’s also some gripping tannic structure that isn’t perceptible with food. It’s fruit-forward and ripe like many Garnacha, but still remains light and fresh. Could age 5+ years, but great now. Should be food friendly too.
Grape Variation:
100% Garnacha.
Origin:
Rozas de Puerto Real, west Madrid.
Food pairing:
Beef,Pasta,Lamb,Deer,Venison.
